UK
Fortification of seagrass ecosystems.
Overview
Seagrass is vital to the oceans health; as much as 92% of the UK’s seagrass has been lost. Its restoration is important for protecting UK coastlines and help to fight climate change as seagrass stores carbon 35 times faster than forests. Project Seagrass' mission is to “lead societal change to enable the recognition, recovery and resilience of seagrass ecosystems globally; that provide biodiversity, equitable and sustainable livelihoods, and planetary life support.”
The Deep partnered with Project Seagrass to provide support in seagrass seed collection, out planting and surveying in the field.
Outcomes
- Research into current seagrass coverage via surveys.
- In-situ monitoring and seed collection.
- In-situ management and restoration via planting seagrass.
