General Enquiries FAQs
Can I do work experience or student placements at The Deep?

We are now taking expressions of interest for this academic year from schools, colleges and Universities in the region.  We offer placements in a number of departments, as detailed below.  Please get in touch with the relevant contact for further details.

Hospitality, Leisure & Tourism

This one week work placement during term time only is suitable for students in years 10 to 13 and studying at schools or colleges in Hull and East Riding. During the placement students will spend time in the gift shop, reception, cafe, education department, guiding within the exhibition and the offices. Hours of work are 10.15am to 4pm on the Monday and 9.30-4pm Tuesday to Friday. Students should wear black shoes and trousers and The Deep will provide a uniform top. An annual risk assessment is carried out on behalf of schools by E2W Education to Work Partnership and they have ruled out a list of 'no go' activities within The Deep for all students aged 18 or under including working with animals behind the scenes. We will require a completed E2W form for each student placement. We regret that individual risk assessments by individual schools and colleges is not allowed. Please email your name, school, year group and dates of interest.

Aquarists

We offer 1-week work placements with the Aquarist team, covering a vast array of tasks and procedures required for the highest level of animal husbandry and care.  Placements are restricted to over 18's, due to the nature of the work, and are predominantly aimed at those exploring animal and husbandry related careers.
