Wow! The Deep and Mighty Pens hoped that the entries for their joint writing competition would be good but they were not expecting a tidal wave of brilliant stories created by young people of all ages and backgrounds.
“The response has been totally amazing with hundreds of entries,” said Mighty Pens editor Mica Bale. “We thought it would be popular but this has just been totally amazing with hundreds of children taking part including schools.”
Paul Chuckle has also been one of the judges and said, “When I started to look at some of the entries which came ‘To Me To You’ I could not believe that I was reading stories written by children – the standard is fantastic and so many of them too. They are so good that I want to read them over and over again.”
Mica added, “There is great diversity of stories and some are hilarious while others are very emotional. There must be a lot of proud Mums and Dads and teachers out there and they are right to be proud.
“Here at Mighty Pens we are used to seeing a wide range of writing skills and our coaching services are for all genres. We have to take a critical view of writing in order to help people but it was hard to take a critical view of what we have seen in this competition. They were all so good.”
Louise Kirby The Deep’s nominated judge said, “The entries didn’t just come in handfuls, they came in shoals and it is brilliant to see. The winners are about to be announced and that is the hard bit – everyone deserves to be a winner.”
Will The Deep and Mighty Pens arrange another competition?
“Definitely,” said Mica Bale. “We shall have a talk about it and set another challenge. Meanwhile, don’t forget to look at The Deep and Mighty Pens’ websites for the winning stories.”
